Jamal Eljadidi graduated from Conservatoire Nationale des Arts et
Metiers, Paris in 1984 with a degree in computer science. After
returning to Morocco he realized a desk job was not for him. Colonel
Maati Maataoui, one of the top horse jumpers in Moroccan history
introduced Jamal to the equestrian sport at age 13 and gave him
the opportunity to learn the sport from the best. He accepted a
position as trainer at the Kenitra Riding Club and went on to ride
in the most prestigious horse shows throughout Europe and North
Africa.
He eventually emigrated to the United States in 1993. Although
that first year was rife with incredible stories every immigrant
experiences, they are best told over a cigar. The end result was
the opening of Boston Equestrian Center in the spring of 1995. Jamal
spent the next couple of years training thousands of New Englanders
how to ride, but his heart always belonged to the grand prix showjumping
circuit. The capital created from his first business, Boston Equestrian,
allowed him to find horses in Europe and the US that he trained to compete at the grand
prix level.
The autumn of 1997 brought the addition of a wife, Kathryn, and
by the end of 2001 Jamal's family included daughters Sabrina, Jihan
and Amani as well as a son named Said. In 2001 Jamal created BEC Horse
Transport. This horse transport company takes equestrians
to horse shows, beach rides and back and forth up the east coast
circuit. In 2003 Jamal started another business,
St. George Tack.
St. George Tack has the duel intention of creating quality gear
for athletes on the circuit and acting as a liaison for companies
outside the industry looking for sponsorship and marketing opportunities.
Jamal was fortunate to maintain his childhood ties and is happy
to have his signature gear "Made in Morocco". St. George Tack
not only sponsors grand prix riders on the circuit: this January
saw the first of a string of "St. George" horses. The cost of the
Euro and the time constraints on Jamal searching for horses led
to his latest business, breeding. Two grand prix horses brought
Babylon St. George to BEC on Jan. 30, 2006. This new breeding business
allows Jamal to bring along his own grand prix horses and travel
to Europe with more flexibility knowing quality showjumpers are
coming along at home.
Jamal recently wrapped up the winter season at the Wellington Equestrian
Festival in West Palm Beach, Fl. This circuit brings the best international
riders in the world. The coup de grace for Jamal is to compete for
Morocco. As an American citizen, he feels it is very important to
represent Morocco as an ambassador for it's culture and athletics.
The Nations Cup requires 3 riders of the same nationality to compete
at the grand prix level. Jamal and close friend, Karim Ghaibi continue
to represent Morocco as often as possible in World Cup qualifications
hoping to find 1-2 riders able to step up to the plate for the Nations
Cup and even the Olympics.
